James E. Smith (Timber) Ltd. is a leading importer of Softwoods & Frame Grade Birch sourced from major producers in Scandinavia, Germany & the Baltic States as well as sheet materials from Europe, South America & the Far East.
In addition the company carries substantial volumes of Home Grown Softwood.
Our supply partners are all producing quality timber from certified forests and supply a broad range of Softwoods suitable for many types of industries including, construction, landscaping, agriculture, fencing, garden buildings, furniture, pallets & packing.
Our story so far
James E. Smith is an old established independently owned timber supplier based in the heart of Birmingham supplying customers nationwide. Originally formed as a small merchant, the business expanded into softwood importing in 1975 and now has a broad spread of customers engaged in a variety of sectors including export packing, pallet, fencing, garden furniture, garden buildings, landscaping, joinery and agricultural buildings.
Extensive stockyards in Birmingham, Hull, and New Holland also provide a full range of in-house machining and preservative treatment services.

Softwoods, both imported and home grown are sourced from well managed, environmentally certified forests that meet the stringent standards required by FSC® (FSC-C123865) & PEFC (PEFC 16-37-448). The company sell FSC® & PEFC on request.

From our five-acre site in Birmingham, we offer an extensive range of services covering sawmilling, planing, moulding, cross cutting and TANALITH E preservative treatment. We can also offer both TANATONE and VACSOL preservative treatments to order.
